Screen Lights App Reviews

8 Customer Reviews:

Simple little app that makes it much easier to look at my screen in the evening, and also makes it easier to wind down after spending the evening in front of my screen.

This app works perfectly on my main iMac screen, but for the Dell monitor that I use as a second screen, it always reverts to the default (uncalibrated) color profile when it deactivates. I then have to re-select the proper calibration profile manually. It always reverts back to the proper calibrated profile on the main display, so I’m sure it’s just an oversight that would be quick to fix. So one star off of an otherwise good app. Fix the multi-monitor calibration profile issue, and it would be five stars. If you don’t have a second monitor, or don’t care about color calibration, then it’s all good.

Stopped Working With Update

No longer works MacOS 10.11.6 - will not open

why, who cares v1.7 · 9 years ago

It’s okay, but for the price … I’m not at all wowed. It is simple enough and does what is needed. But, you have to set each color, and if you change to a different color (you can’t mix them, either), you lose whatever scale of color and dimmer you previousy set. The only color that worked for me was yellow, and I had to allow for some blue in order to properly see anything, so in effect, I only got an 80% reduction, which is good, but it isn’t 100% which would be optimal. I’m not sure that the “ruler” has any real effect either, other than to go across the screen, but ??? I would not have minded paying .99 or up to 2.99 for this app, but I feel a bit taken aback at the 7.99 sticker price. I won’t be shopping from these developers again.

That’s true that this is not super low priced, but it is the only app of its kind, it works well, and could have some serious health benefits for those of us who are sometimes forced to work at our computers until close to bedtime. I try not to do that, but some days you can’t avoid it. And, although those orange glasses can also help, I’d prefer not to have to wear funny looking, ill-fitting orange safety goggle glasses inside all night every night… I’d much rather try to improve the screen at night situation by using red/yellow bulbs in the house and a red screen filter at night. After learning what studies say about how much blue lights disrupt melatonin and interfere with restful REM sleep, and is related to so many bad health conditions over the long run, I thought this seemed like a pretty basic idea for an app, and surely someone must have made one. So I looked for it for my iPhone, iPad, and Macbook. I found nothing for the iPad. For the iPhone, as of today there are a couple of specialty web browsers that red light/blue light filters… but you are stuck using that browser, and I really wanted the filter to wash over everything I was doing on my phone, even across and in between apps! (I imagine that may not be possible due to apple development rules, I don’t know). So this app accomplishes that on my Mac. I really like it and really have nothing to complain about. Recommended if you are concerned about being forced to use a screen at night.

I usually only download free apps so getting this one was a big leap in price but I am finding it to be worth it as a college student. I just started using it and I am already enjoying the different screen color options and other features. My eyes feel better reading electronic page after electronic page and I have an easier time falling asleep. I couldn’t ask for more.

This application is made with a fantastic idea to mitigate people’s eye strain, however, the application is spotty: it closes unexpedetly and/or changes colors without me telling to do so. If/when these issues are solved, then this application deserves 5 stars; until then, I would NOT reccomend this application.

Good, But Not Great On Multi-Monitor Setups

This worked fine for a while. Now it won’t launch at all. Sent an email, hoping for a fix.

Great idea but poor performance

This application is made with a fantastic idea to mitigate people’s eye strain, however, the application is spotty: it closes unexpedetly and/or changes colors without me telling to do so. a lot of money for a little app
